SOMAS cryogenic valves - customized for low temperatures

What is the definition of cryogenic conditions? Cryogenic conditions occur when the temperature is lower than 120 degrees Kelvin (-153,15 °C).  SOMAS supplies valves adapted for cryogenic conditions. We have adapted and modified our ball segment valves and butterfly valves to be able to operate under these extremely low tempereatures.

A great advantage of our cryogenic valves is their excellent ability to prevent icing of the bonnet and stuffing box, since they are fitted with an extended bonnet and the stuffing box is located on top. The cryogenic valves are also fitted with a metal or fibreglass seat. This further improves the functionality and performance of the valve.

Somas cryogenic valves find frequent use in industries handling liquefied gasses. Among these are the chemical industry, steel and metal industries, but also the paper and pulp industry and shipping - shipbuilding industry . The cryogenic valves are used to handle gasses that have been refrigerated to a liquid state.

Product information for SOMAS cryogenic valves

Somas cryogenic valves have a number of functions and improvements related to their adaption to their purpose. Below is the product information for SOMAS cryogenic valves

Butterfly valves dimensions DN80 - DN500.
Ball segment valves dimensions DN25 - DN250.
Pressure classes PN10 - PN50.
Made from acid-proof stainless steel SS2343-12, the valves have a temperature operating range from -196 °C to 200 °C. Valves with a soft seat have a slighty reduced upper limit to their temperature operating range.
Butterfly valves with metal seat and ball segment valves with Hi-Co seat provide good tightness to IEC 534-4 class V.
Butterfly valves with PTFE seat and ball segment valves with PTFE seat provide good tightness to IEC 534-4 klass VI.
The butterfly valve version is of the advanced triple-eccentric design
Easy maintenance since the seats in our butterfly and ball segment valves can be replaced without removing the actuator or any need for complete disassembly of the valve.
Can be supplied in a de-greased, lubricant free version for operation in oxygen rich envirionments.
