Jan De Nul - Offshore Services

With the largest dredging vessels of the world in its fleet, Jan De Nul Group is particularly well equipped for the execution of dredging works in off shore conditions. Furthermore, the Company's in-house Engineering Department stands for innovative and realistic solutions.

The very large self-propelled seagoing cutter dredgers 'JFJ De Nul', 'Leonardo da Vinci' and 'Marco Polo' can tackle the hardest and most difficult soil conditions during shore approach dredging. Furthermore, these dredgers are equipped with a system for loading barges alongside, so as to work in accordance with strict environmental requirements.

Jan De Nul Group's very large trailing hopper dredger 'Vasco da Gama' is equipped for dredging in waterdepths up to 138 m, which is deeper than any other vessel. With the 'active' drag heads of this vessel, more cohesive soils which were previously impossible to be trenched can now be excavated. The dynamic tracking system ensures the drag head to follow a predefined trench at better tolerances, resulting in minimum quantities being trenched at the most economical cost. For sand and gravel backfilling of pipelines the dredge pipe can be used as a fall pipe.

Recently, Jan De Nul Group has also decided to build a new 6,000 ton dynamic positioned side dumping vessel and a new 32,500 ton fall pipe vessel 'Simon Stevin' for rock dumping on pipelines and seabed preparation in 1,700 water depth. Both vessels are the largest of their kind available on the world market. The 'Simon Stevin' will also be equipped with a seabed crawler capable of cutting 15 to 30 MPa rock in water depths up to 1,700 m. This will provide a cost effective solution to pre-lay seabed preparation compared to rockdumping.
