46 YEARS IN THE SERVICE OF THE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING COMMUNITY

Finnøy was founded in 1884. From 1902 to 1975 it produced engines with propellers. Its first hydraulic controllable pitch propeller was delivered in 1932. Since 1975 it has specialised in the design and manufacture of gearboxes and controllable pitch propellers. Its product range is reduction gearboxes, controllable pitch propellers, fixed nozzles, steering nozzles and remote controls. It has a continous development programme in propeller systems and its intention is to be a market leader in this field. Finnøy is located in modern production halls with modern production machines to meet the demands the market requires.

Finnoy offers:

Single Stage Gearbox
The reduction gearboxes are designed for engines between 150 kW to 8000 kW. Maximum input speed is from 3200 rpm to 1000 rpm for the largest gearboxes. The reduction ratio is from 2:1 up to 10:1. The largest reduction is done by an additional gear train. The gearboxes can be delivered with PTO's for hydraulic pumps or shaft generator.

GXU Gearbox
GXU gearboxes are designed for vessels where the size of the engine room is limited. The gearbox can be delivered with different center distances for best possible arrangement in the engine room. The gearbox is engineered with a solid design for high reliability in operation. PTO's for hydraulic pumps or shaft generator can be delivered.

Twin Input - Single Output
Twin input - single output gearboxes is often used when variable power to the propeller is required. The gearbox can be operated with one or two engines at the same time. In vessel were extra reliability is required this is a good solution. The engines can either be placed in front or behind the gearbox. PTO's for hydraulic pumps or shaft generator can be delivered.

CP Propeller
The CP Propellers are manufactured from 1000 mm to 5000 mm in diameter. They are delivered with 3, 4 or 5 blades. The propeller hub and blades are manufactured in Ni.Al.-bronze. They can also be delivered in Stainless steel. The hydrodynamic blade design calculations are based on detailed analysis in computers together with Finnøy's long experience.

The propeller shaft is hollow bored and made of carbon steel or stainless steel. The pitch is adjusted by the push - pull rod. It transfers the axial force from the servo piston in the gearbox to the pitch setting mechanism in the propeller hub. The propeller hubs, type P26 to P48, are grease lubricated and from P39 to P125 are oil lubricated.

The stern tube is delivered complete with bearings, sealing boxes and a gravity tank for stern tube oil. The stern tube can be delivered suitable for either oil or water lubrication. The sealing boxes are Finnøy's own design, but other types can also be supplied. The propeller shaft flange is a split type for the smaller shafts and an oil shrink type for the larger shafts.

Propeller Design
All ships have individual needs. Speed is important for some ships. Towing pull is more important for others. To satisfy these needs Finnøy use the most suitable software together with Finnøy's knowledge when designing propeller blades. The propeller blade is designed for best possible performance regarding thrust, efficiency, noise and vibration. The blades are ground and balanced according to ISO 484 standards.

Remote Control
Electronic remote control for control of gearboxes and cp-propeller systems. Remote control systems of all types can be supplied, as a single panel for control of pitch and rpm to larger combinator controls and single lever joy-stick systems.
